Plague Runeword in Diablo II: Resurrected

Plague is almost written for any Poison Necromancer focusing on Daggers because there are several three-socketed Daggers in the game to consider this Runeword. The lack of actual bonuses to Poison damage appears like a missed opportunity.

However, the -23% to Poison damage and modest gains of Lower Resist are enough to interrupt Poison Immunity in many non-stationary mobs. Lower Resist only works at 1/5 effectiveness when breaking immunities, but between this and also the -23% to Enemy Poison Resist, you are in good shape because Poison Immunes will not be very far into the immunity spectrum. Out of the nearly 100 NPCs which are immune to Poison in Hell, 22 are simply barely immune at 100, 17 are 105, 28 are 110, 6 are 115, 13 are 120, and 5 are 125-145. Stationary mobs for example Lightning Spires, Catapults, doors, barricades, etc., are way too high to touch with either Lower Resist or even the reduced Poison Resist, so simply have a backup plan for all those.

    Plague Recommendations

Runewords vary on the suitability for various classes and specs, in addition to the utility for that various Mercenaries. This next section will discuss what classes and specs could make the most out of Plague, whether you should look at using Plague together with your Mercenary follower, what base to consider, and where you can acquire Runes.

Best Classes and Specs for that Plague Runeword

Dagger-wielding Poison Necromancers will like Plague, especially if it rolls with +2 Skills along with a good-quality Cleansing Aura. The amount of reduced enemy poison resist is not as high because it is on the Death's Web wand, but a Daggermancer will like the extra Physical damage traits. It's also appealing to Assassins who concentrate on Venom for adding poison attacks to their weapons.

    Plague for Mercenaries

This is a superb main hand weapon to have an Act V Frenzy Barbarian dual-wield Mercenary in Patch 2.4 because the reduction to enemy Poison Resistance fails when in the offhand.

For the offhand, select a weapon with good base damage but with no lot of on-hit properties for example Crushing Blow or Deadly Strike, which don't work around the offhand. Lawbringer is a superb choice for removing Physical immunity, particularly for any Poison Javazon using Jab as a secondary attack or for any Poison Nova necro's Physical-damage minions. The extra damage vs. undead the Sanctuary aura provides can also be useful since a large amount of Poison Immunes is undead. This is a stellar pairing having a Poison Javazon, a Poison Nova necromancer who isn't using it like a dagger, or perhaps a Venom-focused Assassin.
